LCM Spring 2018’s Semi Finals From The Eyes Of A Caster

For this #LCM update, the team at MGO has decided to poke the thoughts of one of the popular LoL casters. Here’s what he has to say about the Semis…

The League of Legends Championship Malaysia (LCM) was an attempt to rebrand the local professional league to something comparable to the League of Legends Championship Korea (LCK) or the North America League of Legends Championship Series (LCS NA) or EU LCS.

Despite all criticism from certain factions of the community, today’s semi-final was set up through literal tears and heart ache as 3 teams, 19 dedicated players had given up another split (4 months) of their lives to chase a dream in an ecosystem where only the strongest are given an audience. Kuala Lumpur Hunters (KLH), the reigning champions. Fire Dragoons (FDG), the fire nations uprising. GeekFam (GF), the Eternals Reborn (formerly Eternity Esports).

These teams had one desire this split, and it was to get a spot to represent Malaysia at the Mid-Season Invitational (MSI). It was not the first time they cross paths, during group stages all 3 teams had to play against each other with GeekFam reigning supreme with the most wins over both sides. FDG had some crushing defeats under GeekFam and only drew against KLH. Statistically GeekFam was the most favoured team to win.

Fire Dragoon vs GeekFam

The day began with a gruesome series as FDG kept their wincons at hand and played as if they were part of a burning crusade. FDG stood a top of their smouldering enemies with a clean 3 – 0 over GeekFam. GeekFam’s undying spirit pressed on into the loser bracket where the Tigers await. Both teams knew what was on the line. It was do or die.

GeekFam vs Kuala Lumpur Hunters

Game 1: Was hard won victory for GF as they punished KLH’s sloppy mistakes, giving the Hunters a sign that they were not to be toyed with, 1 – 0.

Game 2: The hunters relished the challenge and we witnessed one of the biggest blood baths in the season. A war of attrition waged in summoners rift ended with the Hunters on top, 1 – 1.

Game 3: Was no different, a challenger had approached the hunters ascension to the top and nothing was going to stop them, 1 – 2. With everything pushed against their backs, GeekFam were in a rut. One game away from their elimination, they had nothing left to lose.

Game 4: Drafting to punish the Hunters Top Lanner “Shiro” was forced to play a terrible champion match-up in order to benefit the team. GeekFam found success, “Shiro” had been left to fend for himself in the toplane, resulting in a lack of farm and impact in the game. Rayz had lost his front line tank resulting in his boldnest to get the best of him. After getting caught 3 times by GF it was settled, 2 – 2.

Game 5: A match to remember. GeekFam had gone through thick and thin. Finished on top of the standings, just to watch as after each and every fight their ADC Clayx fell further and further behind. The dread set in, and the Hunters pounced, 2 – 3. The Hunters were moving to the finals.

Closing: To be fair this was over dramatized but that was the entire story behind it. There was only silence between games but you could feel the tension of the teams as they deliberated their mistakes and new ways to deal with them. Despite losing to KLH, GeekFam was a team with true potential. I hope to see them again next split with the same roster because these boys have what it takes. They just need time.
